SolarDuo Project
by Koray Tahiroglu & Joni Lyytikainen

SolarDuo Project experiments on the possible sound structures that light waves can create. In their performance they play self- made solar panel instruments and use solar data, which is gathered from terrestrial and orbiting solar instruments to create soundscapes. SolarDuo Project also experiments with different sonification possibilities.

INSTRUMENTS
0/1
is a modification of an old pocket calculator that uses solar panel as an electric source. 0/1 is sonifying calculations.

5/4
Solar panel and light resistors control the over all sounds created by 5/4 instrument.

NoiseCity Helsinki Event
Date: 15 January 2005
Location: Helsinki, Finland

The idea for Art's Birthday 2005 was for sound-artists around the world to inhabit the city and plan events. Mlab / UIAH Helsinki contributed to the Art's Birthday 2005 celebration by organizing Noise CityHelsinki electro-acoustic music event on Saturday 15th of January at KOKO Teatteri. Noise City Helsinki aimed at creating a possibility for the participants of the event to experience different types of city waves transforming into sound structures. Performers of the Noise City Helsinki event were; Clonus Patterns, Petri Kuljuntausta, SolarDuo Project and Erkki Kurenniemi. http://mlab.uiah.fi/puredata/noisecity

Art's Birthday Event
Date: 17.01.2004
Time: 1200 - 2000 (GMT+2)
Base location: Mbar Cafe, Helsinki, Finland

Helsinki and Sydney crews attempted to exchange weather via Internet during ArtŐs Birthday event. Helsinki crew set up solar powered sound modules to respond to Australian sunshine. In Helsinki, Australian sunshine transformed into solar sound production and streamed through Internet. Also Helsinki crew streamed the data related to the Helsinki temperature and wind values. During the event we, SolarDuo Project, played Solar Eclipse instruments using as a source sunlight received from Sydney via internet through the Scrambled Bites server in Canada. We performed three hours live sessions at 12pm and 5pm local time (GMT+2). http://www.artsbirthday.org/participants.html
