Type: Silver coin, so-called penny.

Use: Means of payment.

Site: Raisio, Tuomala hoard (1835).

Period: Viking Age / Crusade Age..

Dating: Ca. 1015 A.D./font>

Size: Diameter 20 mm.

Weight: 1.65 g.

This coin was minted by Cnut the Great in Lund in Scania (Skåne), southern Sweden, which at that time formed a part of Denmark. Cnut had become the king of England in 1016 and succeeded to the Danish throne in 1019 or 1020. He had, however, started coinage before that. The coin imitates an English type.
