Type: Silver coin, so-called penny.

Use: Means of payment.

Site: Raisio, Tuomala hoard (1835).

Period: Viking Age.

Dating: 1002-24 A.D.

Size: Diameter 19 mm. (half)

Weight: 1.40 g.

Photographer: Antti Huittinen.

This coin was minted for the German emperor Henry II (1002-24) in the city of Tiel which now belongs to the Netherlands. On the obverse can be seen the crowned face of the emperor. Almost one hundred coins from Tiel have been discovered in Finland. Usually they are struck rather poorly, which is typical of the German coins of that period.
