Dissertation in the field of New Media: MA Joanna Saad-Sulonen

MA Joanna Saad-Sulonen will defend her dissertation Combining Participations: Expanding the Locus of Participatory E-planning by Combining Participatory Approaches in the Design of Digital Technology and in Urban Planning. Professor Susanne Bødker, Institute of Computer Science, Aarhus University, will act as the Opponent. Professor Lily Diaz will act as the Custos.

First prize in Sitra competition

March 12th, 2014

Researchers from Media Lab won the first prize in a challenge organized by SITRA and the Finnish Ministry of the Interior. The challenge looked broadly at how service design and human-centric approaches can be used by the public administration, in this case specifically how could the process of reporting crimes with racist motives could be improved.

Continues on 9.3.: Digitizing Robot & Talk on Open Archives at Gallen-Kallela Museum

Akseli Gallen-Kallela’s digital phonebook Haloo Akseli opened to the public in February. In Gallen-Kallela Museum’s & Medialab’s Theme Day Haloo Akseli – Tarvaspää Calling! on Sunday March 9th we continue to collect material for the archive with the help of digGLAM digitizing robot. At the same time we’ll discuss the ideas behind the project: in panel discussion Art, Archives & Commons we talk about digital archives and the objectives, aims and future of making archives open.

Audiovisual Exchange seminar, 10th of February, Aalto Media Factory

On 10th February, Aalto Media Factory will host the Audiovisual Exchange seminar, on live visuals and audiovisual systems. Invited international guests are Sergi Jordà (Prix Ars Electronica Golden Nica winner with Reactable; researcher at Music Technology Group, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona) and Mick Grierson (Senior Lecturer at Goldsmiths Digital Studios, Goldsmiths, University of London; Director of the Daphne Oram Collection). Nuno Correia and Jari Kleimola from Aalto University (respectively, ARTS – Media Lab, and SCI – Media Technology) will also present.
