What I do: I lead the Doctor of Arts program. For the academic year of 2009-2010, I will be teaching the following courses: • Design Research (Autumn, Spring) • Systems of Representation (Spring) • Information Design Workshop (Spring).

What I don't do: I do not deal with the day-to-day details of Dynamic Visualization Design (DVD). Please contact Markku Reunanen for more information.

Responsibilities: Professor of Design for Systems of Representation, Doctoral students' tutoring, Systems of Representation research group leader.

Professional interests: Representation in digital media, digital cultural heritage, design research methods, information design. Although I have been a film enthusiast all my life, I have recently gotten more interested in learning about traditional cinema, its history and practices.

Personal interests: Finland and Venezuela: Learning more about the culture, the history, and the people.

Background: My educational background is in anthropology, art (photography) and design (new-digital-media). I have worked in the field as a designer and a photographer and have also had some involvement with video art and holography. My formal involvement with creative research dates to the early 1980's when I was involved with implementing the Zone System in my own photographic work.
