Postgraduate Doctor of Arts (DA) courses
Each semester, the Media Lab offers the Doctoral Studies Seminar. The topics of the seminar as well as the invited speakers vary from year to year.
The guidelines for presenting thesis work are available here as a PDF file.
The unit is also involved in planning and receives information about courses with other research networks in Finland, the Nordic countries, as well as in Europe. Each semester, the information and availability of these courses is disseminated to students enrolled in the unit.
Participation in postgraduate coursework outside of the unit should be discussed with the professor prior to enrollment.
Master of Arts (MA) courses
To a certain extent, doctoral students can participate in MA courses at the Media Lab and in the School of Arts, Design and Architecture in general. As is the case with all coursework outside of the unit, such activities should be discussed with the professor in charge of doctoral studies.
JOOPAS agreement
Doctoral students can apply to do coursework in other universities in Finland through the JOOPAS agreement of collaboration. For more information about the procedure, please contact the Lab's amanuensis, Anna Arsniva and visit www.joopas.fi.
Finding advisors and supervisors for the work
Every doctoral student should have at least one advisor who is himself/herself a doctor. Students can have more than one advisor. Not all of the student's advisors need to have a doctorate.
The ultimate decision of whether to appoint someone as advisor or supervisor rests with the professor in charge of the doctoral studies and with the research council. To learn more about the procedures involved in getting advisors and supervision for your work, please contact the professor in charge.
The dissertation
A dissertation is a study made independently and published as a book or otherwise (electronically, for instance), which has not been displayed in a published form in full before. To learn more about the dissertations created at School of Arts, Design and Architecture, see our publications.
