Application

The Media Lab at the Department of Media offers interdisciplinary studies in design in new media and study projects for MA and post-graduate students from disciplines that relate to new media including other areas of design, arts, computer science, communication, cognitive science, sociology etc. Our various study programs are open for application at specific times during the year.

Common prerequisites for MA and Minor subject studies

In short, we require applicants to have a prior degree (at least BA, BSc or equivalent), preferably with previous experience in group work using digital media tools and an ability to function in an international, mainly English language-based environment. We also ask for commitment, as work here is done mainly in projects, not by dropping in for exams.

Apply to MA studies in the Media Lab

A group of students representing a variety of skills, backgrounds and talents are chosen every spring. The process consists of three steps: a written application which describes your background, experience and motivation, followed by a set of assignments and finally, an interview which also includes a portfolio pitch.

This spring 2012 we open three MA application processes: application for Master's Degree Programme in New Media, 1) in specialication area of New Media and 2) in specialication area of Game Design and Production and also 3) for Master's Degree Programme in Sound in New Media.

Please note: at the stage 1 you will send your application papers to the ARTS Application Office, not to the unit Media Lab. Units will not see the application papers before late in March, so we are not able to tell if your application was received safely or not. According to Finnish law this is on your own responsibility. We'd advise not to call the study office either, because they receive thousands of applications.
