What is Tikki?
Tikki is an animated short film done by a group of students from
Media Lab of University of Art and Design Helsinki. Most of the group
members have a backgroud in either traditional 2D- or 3D-animation
studies.
The filmmakers wanted to create a story that has a meaning, isn't a comedy but still
it brings a smile on the viewer's face. The chosen medium, animation, allows the filmmakers freely to use
symbolic elements such as a chalk line drawn onto the fabric
representing the supervision of the parents. Although "Tikki" is
mainly animated in 3D, it employs also 2D techniques, which creates a
parallel method of storytelling in multiple realities. In 2D there is a jump
into the main character's thoughts, whereas in 3D all remain in a more
coherent, "real" world.
