As a response to yesterdays keynote speach, I have to first clarify what I mean with sketcing in this presentation. I consider sketching as a mean for creating something that doesn't exist, not as recording of things that already exist.

Because of my design background, I'm quite used to doing sketches. Even in my engineering work I keep a scetch pad available all the time. When tackling with visual problems, sketching is a valuable tool in soving the problems.

This is essentially what sketching is about; it is a visual thinking process, a cycling process going on between the brain, hands, the sketch on paper, and the eyes. Sketching is not about transferring the mental idea from the brain of the designer to the paper, but the visual feedback of the sketch back to the brain is also an important part of the process.
