This workshop will follow on from the COST-SID Summer School on Product Sound Design. The Workshop on Embedded Sounds will provide hands-on learning in designing and producing sounds using the Arduino microprocessor. Through this workshop you will gain an understanding of the potential and limitations of the tools and techniques for embedding sound in products.

Participants will be introduced to the Arduino microprocessor that is specifically intended for artists and designers who do not have extensive programming or electronics experience. You will then explore some simple examples of sound design and production in the embedded Arduino environment. From there you will go on to develop your own embedded sound project over the course of the day with the help of the workshop Facilitators. By the end you will have your own working prototype of an embedded sonic interface.

You will also have an understanding and experience with microprocessors, Java programming, electronics, and sound synthesis that will provide a foundation for further explorations of product sound design.
