COURSES 1999-2000

The following courses or lectures are given or planned to be given by Timo Honkela. The courses consist of introductory presentations, written report or demonstration, potentially presentations by the students, and concluding session.

Spring 2000

  • Introduction to Learning Systems for Humanities (begin Feb 29) with, e.g. 
    • neural networks and their applications in humanities 
    • genetic algorithms with applications in arts and design 
    • introduction to self-organizing maps 
    • self-organizing maps in natural language processing 
The courses are also suitable for advanced MA students.

OTHERS DEPARTMENTS

  • The doctoral school Elomedia has its own www pages.
  • Some of the doctoral students of the department of industrial arts have related topics and

  • thus some of the TMO seminars may be interesting also for Media Lab's doctoral students.

The next research school will be organised in Gotheburg on June 2-9.

If you visit other seminars. doctoral defenses, etc., please, document your visits, make rather detailed notes for your own benefit and for having a chance to be credited for your activity.

I highly recommend visiting doctoral defenses occasionally and following carefully the dicussions and, for instance, the strategies of the opponents.
