Mobile Hub:

Through the Mobile Hub, the Media Lab offers support for fast protoyping activities related to mobile technology projects that take part in the Media Lab. It offers also the possibility to get hands-on experiences with mobile technology.
This means e.g.:
- Access to mobile devices
- Tutoring for relevant authoring tools and development SDK's
- Access to testing environment

These resources are also available to other UIAH departments' students and staff, through taking part in, or forming "mobile" activities at the Media Lab.

The Mobile Hub, what is it?

It is a:

* Prototype development environment for mobile applications (client and server).
For Mobile Games, Mobile Media (Audio, Video, Wml, Xhtml, Animation, Text …),
Mobile Messaging, Bluetooth applications and Location based services.
Tools e.g.: Java J2ME (MIDP) SDK, C++ (Symbian) SDK, Python (Jython) SDK.
- Dedicated PC's with ready configured authoring tools and SDK's.
- Tutoring and introductions to relvevant technologies and tools will be available.

* Prototype testing environment to run trials and do hands-on testing.
This includes: e.g. a variety of mobile devices and ready server applications
connected to the public mobile network as well as stand-alone short range
messaging platform, …

* A “place” where mobile devices can be lended from. E.g. for short term
student projects to get hands-on experience and for research projects.

* A place that has concentrated knowledge on Mobile technology, Mobile
application development and Mobile Media production (Tools, processes, design,
concept planning, …)

* A facilitator of new projects related to mobile technology (also collaboration with
outside partners)


The Mobile Hub is run by Jürgen Scheible who is a researcher and doctoral
student in the Media Lab. The Hub is being established these days and will be
ready avilable by end of spring 05.
